Contracts relate to the general principles governing a promise or set of promises which the law will enforce, and also to special topics such as the sale of goods, building contracts and leases. This encyclopaedia provides comprehensive information concerning contracts in jurisdictions all over the world. It consists of both national and international monographs and is published in loose-leaf format. The first part of each national monograph covers the general principles of the law of contract: formation of the contract, conditions of substantive validity, the terms of the contract, the rule of privity, the termination of the contract, and the remedies. The second part deals with specific contracts such as the sale of goods, suretyship, pledge, but also bailment and agency. A chapter on quasi-contracts is included. Each national monograph is an essay in comparative law in the sense that it attempts to set out the elements of the concerned law of contract to inform a reader who is familiar with a different law system. The international monographs cover: the uniform law of international contracts, the negotiation of international contracts, the drafting of the main clauses, the UNIDROIT principles of international commercial contracts and the search for the applicable law.
