Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples. Sheet measures 13" x 9". This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the 1973 summer collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a short navy dress with extravagant frills and pleats. A swatch of the appropriate fabric, navy muslin, is stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year.
