The best known of John Ironside's nine detective novels, published in England as 'The Call-Box Mystery' and in France as 'La Cabine 19'. 'The wife of a famous diplomat is found murdered in a telephone booth after the theft of confidential documents her husband kept in secret in his home office. An obviously innocent suspect is imprisoned and can only count on his wife and friends to exonerate him before he is hanged.' First published as 'The Call-Box Mystery' a year earlier in London by Methuen & Co., Ltd. Euphemia Margaret Tait (1866-1945), was a Liverpool born, privately educated journalist and novelist who wrote under the pseudonym 'John Ironside'. -- Octavo (book size 19.4x13.4cm), pp. vi [2] 280. In publisher's blue cloth, spine lettered and ruled in brown, front panel with single filet border enclosing lettering and vignette of telephone with cable, all in brown, all edges trimmed.
