A collection of supplements to The London Gazette. An official journal recording the movements of the British government, The London Gazette claims to be the oldest English newspaper. Though it does not have a large circulation it is the most important official journal as it publishes statutory notices that are required to be printed. Here the Supplement to The London Gazette gives specific updates on the actions of the War Office during the Second World War. Though absorbed into the Ministry of Defence in 1964, the War Office was in continuous use since the seventeenth century. The titles in this set are: Two copies of Thursday 13 June 1946, discussing the 'Operations in the Middle East from August, 1939 to November, 1940'. A copy of Wednesday 3 July 1946, discussing 'Operations in the Middle East from 7th February, 1941 to 15th July, 1941'. A copy of Wednesday 13 November 1946, discussing 'Operations in the Middle East from 16th February, 1943, to 8th January, 1944'. A copy of the Thursday 15 January 1948, discussing 'Operations in the Middle East from 1st November 1941 to 15th August 1942'. A copy of the Thursday 5 February 1948, discussing 'The African Campaign from El Alamein to Tunis, from 10th August, 1942 to 13th May, 1943'. In 6 volumes. Newspaper supplement with no binding. Externally, smart with rust marks to staples. Small tear to front of 'Thursday, 13 June, 1946' no. 1. With light edgewear. Slight tear to front of 'Thursday, 5 February, 1948'.
