Note: Both items reproduce an image made for the Cinderella stamps (see below) Finlay published in editions for an exhibition at the time when the United Kingdom faced a change in maritime law and the Euro was being mooted as the universal European currency. The first card shows a modern plastic fish box and the name of a fishing boat 'Gleaner B275'. The letter 'B' here represents Belfast, which is its registered port. The stamp has to be sold for 1 Euro. The companion card shows a traditional wooden fish box and the name of a fishing boat 'Harvester PD98'. The letters 'PD' here represents Peterhead, which is its registered port. In this case this stamp has to be sold for 35p. Cinderella stamps are generally privately produced labels that look like a postage stamp.

As well as his text works, the artist has also produced 'sound-picture-collages' and experiments in radio, television and publishing.Ian Hamilton Finlay (28 October 1925 ? 27 March 2006) was a Scottish poet, writer, artist, and gardener. He briefly attended Glasgow School of Art and first made his reputation as a writer, ipublishing short stories and plays in the 1950s. In 1961 he founded the Wild Hawthorn Press with Jessie McGuffie and within a few years had established himself internationally as Britain's foremost concrete poet.

The image depicts a bronze sculpture of an axe buried in a wooden block bearing the title text. The axe has two long thin strands of ribbon length hanging from the handle. Printed brown on cream art paper. One of an edition of only 30 copies issued by the Institute of Contemporary Art during his exhibition held there 'Instruments of the Revolution' as one of their ICA Editions prints. Image and sheet size: 61.5cm x 50cm. Fine condition, as issued. Note: Most prints by IHF produced in editions of 250 copies; this, the smallest, being only 30 copies. Condition: oval image in good condition, toning to top edge, general handling marks, 2 or 3 fine creases right hand side, fold bottom left corner, 2 closed tears and bruising to bottom edge and handling marks heavier in bottom of print. Very good only.
