He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1929 after the wave-like behavior of matter was first experimentally demonstrated in 1927. De Broglie suggested in 1924 that particles might have wave properties in addition to particle properties. Three years later the wave nature of electrons was detected experimentally. Objects of everyday experience, however, have a computed wavelength much smaller than that of electrons, so their wave properties have never been detected; familiar objects show only particle behaviour. De Broglie waves play an appreciable role, therefore, only in the realm of subatomic particles.[Britannica] Bound in brown cloth spine lettering black, covers soiled, light wear to spine ends and corners, previous owner's name black out on front pastedown, light toning to page edges. A very good copy of this very scarce work.
