André Vésale, né Andreas Wytinck dictus van Wesel à Bruxelles le 31 décembre 1514 et mort à Zante le 15 octobre 1564, est un anatomiste et médecin brabançon, considéré par de nombreux historiens des sciences comme le plus grand anatomiste de la Renaissance, voire le plus grand de l'histoire de la médecine. Ses travaux, outre qu'ils font entrer l'anatomie dans la modernité, mettent fin aux dogmes du galénisme qui bloquaient l'évolution scientifique depuis plus de mille ans aussi bien en Europe que dans le monde islamique. Vésale ne se détache pas entièrement de l'uvre de Galien, pour lequel il a une très grande admiration. Le fait de le critiquer, de souligner ses erreurs n'est pas un signe de mépris mais comme dans toute démarche scientifique, c'est un processus normal qui s'appelle l'objectivité. Il reprend d'ailleurs un certain nombre d'éléments de l'uvre de Galien. Illustré par 93 planches anatomiques issues de Fabrica, Epitome, Tabulae se reproduites et commentées. Publié par les Editions Roger Da Costa à Paris en 1980 avec un tirage limité à 5000 exemplaires, broché avec une couverture rigide plein tissus en très bon état, format 37,5x29x3 cm , 255 pages.
