Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Für die Castelli-Ausstellung arbeitet Warhol fast den ganzen Sommer 1964 an völlig anderen Bildernals den "Disaster-Paintings": Es ensteht die große Serie der "Flowers" in verschiedensten, fast ausschließlich quadratischen Formaten. Aus dieser allerersten Serie stammen die hier in Berlin ausgestellten Bilder. Diese kleineren Formate gelangen jedoch nicht in die Castelli-Show. Warhol wird sie auf einer wichtigen Ausstellung zeigen, die kurz darauf, im Mai 1965 bei Ileana Sonnabend in Paris stattfindet. Bei Ihr hatte er schon Anfang 1964 seine erste Einzelausstellung in Europa, wohin er "Disaster-Paintings" schickte und die Ausstellung "der Tod in Amerika" betitelte. Die Resonanz in Paris war wohl weniger erfreulich, denn im Hinblick auf die nun kommende Ausstellung stellte er fest: "In France they weren't interested in new art; they'd gone back to liking the Impressionists mostly.
