This copy a probable first American edition: Stated publication date of 1943, publisher listed as Harcourt Brace and Company (become Harcourt, Brace and World in 1954), and a jacket address for the company of "750 Third Avenue, New York, 17, N.Y." The book in nearly fine condition: a former owner's bookplate on the front free end paper, minor foxing at the lower edge of the cloth binding and the tip of the half title page slightly wrinkled. The dust jacket is price clipped, shows foxing, especially along the spine and wear and most of the corners. Still a wonderful copy in DJ of this classic.

They were acquired by Harcourt, Brace & Company which continued to publish Le Petit Prince, but did not update the copyright date, making it difficult to determine later editions. In the 1960's, Harcourt merged with World Publishing, changing the company's name to Harcourt, Brace & World, which allows us to date this copy of Le Petit Prince to the post-1960 merger.
