Covers have a bit of age and age darkening but are generally clean, paper spine label is browned but very legible. Interior title page has old price sticker mark, title page is browned, a few erased pencil marks on inside front cover, text and plates are clean. One plate has a small chip at bottom corner in the margin, otherwise everything clean and nice. A handsome copy of this reproduction of the medieval psalter held at L'Arsenal. ; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.

The black and cream toned plates are detailed, clear and are the exact size of the original. Each of the plates are numbered and described on 'Notice des Planches'. The individual plates are laid within a board portfolio with beige ribbon closure. CONDITION: The leaves are evenly toned without markings. Wear to fore edges leaves 9-12. Portfolio of beige boards entitled in black text on cover and within label on spotted grey fabric spine; ribbon closure. Edge and corner wear, backstrip has one inch and three inch vertical tear. Normal rubbing and wear. Very good. Full refund if not satisfied.

Burgundy cloth, spine gilt, original wrappers bound in, whole book mounted on guards (withdrawn library stamps on front endpapers and verso front wrapper, else clean and firm copy). Lavishly illustrated Psalter of St. Louis (now Bibliothèque nationale de France MS Latin 10525) was made between 1253 and 1270. Done in the elaborate Rayonnant style and richly gilded, the manuscript contains 78 miniatures, reproduced here in half-tone. Included also facsimiles of 6 miniatures from the manuscript owned by Henry Yates Thompson.

The Paris Psalter of St. Louis was made for King Louis IX of France sometime between 1253-1270. Done in the elaborate Rayonnant style and richly gilded, the manuscript contains 78 miniatures of Old Testament scenes starting at the story of Cain and Abel and ending with the coronation of Saul, a calendar of feast days, prayers and the 150 psalms. The original psalter is in excellent condition and is considered a relic of Louis IX, who was canonized in 1297. Book.
